A stroll around Uzes - Part 2

Back to Uzes. The morning's agitation somehow gone after the market the town became very peaceful. Walking through the narrow streets I felt incredibly relax and content. Everything seemed to belong exactly where it was creating a very harmonious atmosphere. All around the Places aux Herbes people were having lunch under the shades of the arcades. But that is not where we stopped because after all Uzes is also famous for its shops!

The town does live from tourist to an extend but it has definitively opted for the'do it with class' option. No cheap souvenirs or fridge magnets but true 'artisanat' and original gifts. The boutiques are privately held, no chains, refinement is key. What variety! Old furniture shops, local products groceries (if you go to Autrefois make sure you buy the orange blossom biscuits), home decoration boutiques... the list is never ending. Most owners have created their business around locally found goods. Sherazade from example sells beauty products and spa treatments all using olive oil in some shape or form. This might not be a ground breaking idea but it stresses the authenticity of the product. Last but not least La Maison de la Truffe, "quel régal"! As you might have guessed from the name the shop specialises in truffles and truffled flavored products. Oils, vinegars, pasta, risottos, sauces everything can have a truffle twist! You can also sit down and enjoy a light lunch "en terrace" where you will be able to taste the ingredients they sell. This restaurant has many faithful clients, Gerard Depardieu being one of them.

In a nutshell if you are in southern France you must visit Uzes, you will not be able to forgive yourself otherwise!
