Let's kick off the market week with Leadenhall (not even on our brilliant map!). It is located a stone throw away from many offices and is therefore very popular amongst city workers. A profusion of restaurants (mainly chains) and pubs populate the place making it an excellent spot for a quick lunch or a pint.Looking at the beautifully clean and vibrant Victorian buildings of today, it’s hard to imagine the noise and smells of a 19th century market. But if you look closely at the shop fronts, you will see the wrought iron hooks where the produce used to hang. My comparisson might be missplaced but it does remind me of the Victor Emanuel II gallery in Milan. Similar tall glass roof and structures with modern boutiques integrated in the build not spoiling the facades. Another interesting fact is that the place has been used to film some of the Harry Poter films bringing worldwide fame to this little vibrant market. My only regret is that the butchers, cheese sellers and other grocers have for the majority been replaced by chains and therefore making the market loose on its authenticity.Great lunch destination nonetheless!
