Stone Street

What a better way to hear about NYC than directly from a New-Yorker. Romain has spent over three years in the big apple and has agreed to share with us his personal favorite. Real insider tips!

I would say Stone Street is THE little gem of Downtown Manhattan, a hint of what this neighborhood used to look like back in the 19th century, when it still was residential, before businesses and banks took over. This cobblestone alley is hidden among the big Wall Street buildings, and it is surprising to find ones from 1840 in this particular area.
So if you want to have a drink in original surroundings in Manhattan, with a different vibe, without many tourists, this is the place. It is filled with pubs/restaurants and when summer comes the street is flooded with large wooden tables and benches.
I think it’s better to come on a Thursday of Friday (on week-ends, it’s quite empty), and as early as 5pm if you want to get a table outside easily. The street is really buzzing until 9 or 10pm, this is why it’s a great place for after-work drinking before heading up North to grab a real dinner, if Guinness and mozzarella sticks are not enough! It can be easier to get a table at the Dubliner’s, at the West end of the Stone Street, facing the former Goldman Sachs building, but if you really want to experience the real deal, try Stone Street Tavern or Ulysses (my favorite)...
