Do not miss out on the big cats if you did not get to see them in the Kruger Park! The Lion Park is not really a zoo nor a wildlife park, it is located not far from Jo'burg and is excessively touristy. In all honesty we only visited it because unfortunately for us, all carnivores were hiding away when we were driving through the wild and we simply could not resign ourselves to leaving SA without setting eye on some of the most beautiful predators of this planet... Hmmm... Well that is only partially true... You can see those animals in European zoos but where else can you pet a baby lion!!! No you have not misread me, the lion nursery has some fifteen cubs walking around a gated space which you can enter with the permission of the volunteers who look after them. Despite being slightly against the concept of treating wild animals as pets giving Simba a great big hug was just too tempting!
