Dear readers! So sorry for not posting for so long! It has been quiet a hectic week for me. To make up for my negligence I shall write about the most famous of all animal parks the Kruger Park!
For those who know Toiry in the Paris region or Longleat in the UK well... Imagine something 100 x bigger larger and just better! As I mentioned before we went to a few animal reserves since we had arrived in S.A. but the Kruger unlike many other parks is home to Africa's Big Five: Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Leopard and Buffalo, you will discover a real African safari. Being on a bit of a budget we stayed in the communal camps with rather standard accommodation (Self-Catering family bungalows) and a mostly local crowed! It is incredible for us Europeans to think that the South Africans go to the Kruger as we would go to the local zoo! Not the same experience! You also obviously have the most luxurious private lodges with a 5 star quality of accommodation and gourmet cuisine (but boy it will cost you!).
It is one of the largest national parks in the world, with an area of almost 20 000 square kilometers is approximately 360 kilometers long, and has an average width of 65 kilometers pretty big for a zoo!!!
The concept is simple, you drive around in your car waiting for some animals to graciously come your way and give you the privilege of admiring them in their own kingdom. It is absolutly breath taking to find your self in the middle of a buffalo gathering or surrounded by playful elephants who gulp a whole tree just like you would eat a piece of lettuce The landscape itself is beautiful and varied from flat lawns to dense forests and high rocks there is a place for each animal to be seen. It was a magic experience. My only regret was not booking the walking tour with a ranger. In the early ours of the day they take you to explore the park and spot the lions by foot!
