Now that I am back in Paris for good I can explore the city and go off the beaten tracks and dig deeper into the city's secrets. My new find is le Coupe Chou. Litterally 'the cabbage cutter'. Despite the total lack of glamour in its name the restaurant has more charm and character than any place I have been to in Paris. It is locatedd in one of the oldest arrondisment of Paris, in the 5 a stonethrough away from Notre Dame and the Panthéon.
The place has it own very Parisian story: three actors, Francis Lemonnier, Francis Nani et Christian Azzopardi, had decided to open an all night restaurant so actors, spectators and others could meet after the show and enjoy a hot meal in a friendly atmosphere.
« Le Coupe Chou » opened on the 3rd of Novembre 1962 and has never closed since. After all it had the magic ingredients to make any business work: somptuous rich french food, the local stars, a building full of character and of course the french 'Je ne sais quoi'.
Nowadays it has become more of a romantic restaurant where you follow little corridors, climb old staircases go from room to room to finally enjoy your meal by candle light and move on to the petit salon for one last drink. I recommend it to anyone as the food is exquisit. The Millefeuilles is a must!
