After the holiday period it is time to get back in the swing of things. Many of us rush to detox cures, diets or hit the gym. Getting back in the swing of things should not mean putting to much pressure on one self by wanting to tackle all matters at once and basically rushing back to per-Christmas stress levels. My new find prevents exactly that. It is a great place to relax, and it manages to be at my doorstep whilst still being a true Escapade.
O'Kari Spa is nested away in an old Parisian building of the 2cd arrondissement. Without word of mouth you would not suspect that North Africa is behind theses doors. After crossing the imposing courtyard you enter a timeless world where everything is centred around relaxation. Sorry gentlemen but you have to stop here. Like most Hamams O'Kari is strictly reserved to woman. The charming owner will talk you through the rituals and the traditions surrounding the Hamams. After leaving your clothes in a cozy changing room you are given bathrobes to enter the premises. First step the steam room. It is a small room with a little water fountain all decorated with mosaics. High temperature and humidity do the trick to open your skin pores. Now you are ready for a full body peeling with traditional black soap and a massage if you request that little extra. You skin will remain soft for long. Deep in the pool and enjoy a freshly prepared lemonade with honey. The ritual is not completed until you have had mint tea in the little salon...
I recommend this place for what it does to the body and the mind and I love it for its authentic feel. All the accessories are imported from North Africa to recreate a true Hamams spirit. The staff is lovely too! As the French say it: À consommer sans modération!
