Gyoza - Japanese fast food

No I am not talking about another Parisian sushi bar!

With this article I am kick starting a short series of 'national fast foods'. Fast Foods are not limited to MacDonald, KFC and other gruesome places. Every culture has its own traditions and 'food on the go' is part of that. Tell me what you eat I'll tell you who you are!

So today I am Japanese! And I only eat the finest Gyozas in Paris! Located in the very trendy Passage des Panoramas. The restaurant belongs to Shinichi Sato, chef in the neighbouring gastronomic restaurant Passage 53. He has decided to open a more affordable place decorated in a stylish modern Japanese minimalist style.

The gyoza are handmade (of course!) with pork meat from Dordogne provided by the best butcher 'du tout Paris' Hugo Desnoyer. Those delicious little dumpling are pan fried in front of your very eyes as you seat around the bar surrounding the cooking area. Simple food = delicious food. The menu is as minimalist as the decorum. It's straightforward, there are only 3 menu items: rice, sesame marinated bean sprouts and a choice of either 8 or 12 gyoza served with a soy-lemon-grapefruit sauce (try not to lick the little dish) .
There is no gyoza without a cold japanese beer so you can choose from a selection of Kirin or Yebisu.

Get there early the place is often full!
