The chef Antoine Herrah has a few restaurants around the Montmartre hill. The best known is probably the 'Moulin de la Galette' an emblematic windmill at the heart of Montmartre.
Today however I take you to a much smaller and cosier venue: his tapas restaurant. The place has a chic but warm vibe with bright colours and high chairs. It can cater for 30 people at most as everything is made in front of your very eyes, using a variety of techniques from steaming to charcoal oven grilling. I personally love tapas, the sole concept of having a nibble of everything appeals immensely to me but if you'd rather play solo you can have a portion enlarged and all to yourself.
Once you start I dare you to stop! The menu goes crescendo! You will not believe me once you have your first bite of the divine croquetas thinking that this is as good as it gets. Follow that by the scallops and the oven grilled vegetables. Who knew greens could taste so good? It's because Antoine sources his products very carefully. Waiters will be able to tell the provenance of every dish. By the time you finish your main(s) you will be nicely full, but, do carry on!
The deserts make the real difference. I do not really have a sweet-tooth but was convinced to try the Piña Colada Mauricienne. A mix of pineapple, coconut milk, banana jelly and delicious rhum... Surprising texture, amazing taste.
May I add that the wine list is simple and to the point? a smart selection. For once you cannot go wrong ordering wine!
