Borough market is one of my favourite markets, well actually it is my favourite market. It is in SE1 after all and I warned that I might be biased when it comes to my neighbourhood! Borough is open 3 days a week Thursday to Saturday, some of the shops are open all week. I love everything about it! It's location, right of London bridge with easy access to the City between Southwark Cathedral and the right bank, underneath train tracks and beautiful victorian roof glass. The atmosphere is like nowhere else it's a mix a colours cultures flavours exotism and tradition. Where else can you enjoy a tartiflette sandwich, buy an ostrich egg and a kangaroo steak whilst sipping on a high detox grass mixture! Every nation with a strong culinary heritage has its stand so it should come as no surprise if you are sold confit de canard by a man in a beret! I love how a traditional food market had evolved into a weekend destination bringing foodies and ordinary people together to celebrate food, fresh products and diversity! Food is also celebrated in the many restaurants located in or around the market. I have previously mentioned Fish! But I would also strongly recommend booking yourself into Roast. This high end Restaurant overlooking the whole market and with views of the city serves top quality British cuisine You can benefit from Borough's great atmosphere without feeling the pressure of the crowd and you can see where your ingredients come from!
