The Loire Valley is famous for many things... fantastic wine, flowers, pleasant riverside and of course its castles!!! They are the embodiment of French renaissance. They go from the largest ones, Chambord, Chenonceau where kings and their cour use to spend the summer to 'more human sized' properties which in any other country would be considered as large castles!
Le château de le Collaisière is one of the hidden gems of the Loire and the place where my good friend hosted the best wedding I have ever been to! It is fair to say that the castle largely contributed to the magic of the event. As you arrive to the little village you could almost miss it! It is nicely nested away in a large parc.
Park the car and walk in the courtyard through the magnificent flourished door. You will be pleasantly surprised that on top of being an impressive little renaissance castle this place is also a luxurious B&B! All around the courtyard you will find spacey room each of them decorated with antique french furniture but obviously having the modern comfort of individual bathrooms.
The outsides are magnificent and very flourished and we really appreciated being able to wonder about and relax! Everyone's fear when organising a wedding is ... rain. Chateau de la Collaissière would not have let that uninvited guest run the party anyway. La Salamandre is the main ball room of the castle. The ceiling resembles the nave of a church whilst the large fireplace adds a warmer touch. Just imagine the parties that must have been hosted here! There is enough room for 150 people to drink, eat and dance!For the drinking there is another place as well...
A beer garden! I can imagine some of you frowning at the screen "what beer at a wedding?". Nonsense! First the beer garden is nicely elevated to contemplate the rest of the property and secondly in the hot french summer everyone craves for a beer! So just enjoy it! Not too much, do not fall in the moat! It you feel like a swim the place has a pool !
